Orz 2. JianRen。

It is a shame the US was the only country who didn't get to watch it live. It is kind of ironic the richest country in the world can't afford to play the ceremony twice like many other countries with timezone differences did. And for a country that talks about freedom of speech, they sure tried very hard to remove clips from Youtube. Let's just say UK is just too small a potato to come up with a show anywhere near this level four years from now.
From New York Times Reader’s Digest: This was really a splendid opening ceremony imparted with ancient Chinese wisdom and a panorama of the continual, glorious history of China. It opened an invaluable gateway for the west to realize just how rapid China is developing, both economically and culturally. Even if the west keeps bashing and accusing China on numerous issues while U.S, the number one country, has been getting away with atrocious act in Iraq and Afghanistan, and many other places in the world, China still maintained its grace and goodwill for global peace and harmony in this visual spectacle they endeavored to present. While many condemned China on its handling on Tibetan protest, they failed to realize Dalai Lama’s shady past as the leader of a horrible theocracy, where a few Buddhist monks constituting the aristocratic class oppressed and enslaved the m***** that made up 99% the population in Tibet. Moreover, the west proposed that Tibet should be an autonomous region (even independent) only for Tibetans to preserve their culture and religion. Don’t you feel this amounts to denying the human rights of other Chinese ethnic groups? As for environmental issues, I guess many choose to turn a blind eye on the fact that the west has been polluting this world for more than 300 years starting from industrial revolution, and that China has been investing heavily in alternative, renewable energy sources. Check online and you’ll find China is leading in terms of energy research, renewable energy usage and wind power exploitation. All these bashing and accusation are merely a reflection of how horrified the west is in the face of a rising power that is not of the same race, same ideology and same cultural background with themselves. Typical xenophobia.
